About Aave
Aave is a decentralized non-custodial lending protocol that began as ETHLend in 2017 and was rebranded to Aave in 2018, led by founder Stani Kulechov. The protocol lets users supply crypto assets to liquidity pools to earn interest and borrow against deposited collateral, with interest rates set algorithmically based on utilization. Aave introduced flash loans, uncollateralized loans that must be borrowed and repaid within a single transaction, and pioneered features such as rate switching and isolation mode for risky assets. AAVE is the governance token used to vote on upgrades, asset listings and risk parameters, and to backstop the protocol through the Safety Module staking pool.
