About BNB
BNB is the native cryptocurrency of the BNB Chain ecosystem, originally launched in 2017 by Binance as an ERC-20 token before migrating to its own chain. It powers transaction fees, validator staking and governance across BNB Smart Chain, an EVM-compatible network that supports smart contracts and decentralized applications. Holders also receive trading-fee discounts on the Binance exchange. BNB uses a proof-of-staked-authority consensus with a small set of validators, which keeps fees low and confirmations fast. Periodic token burns funded by network activity reduce the circulating supply over time, gradually moving BNB toward its long-term cap.
