About Ethereum Classic
Ethereum Classic is the continuation of the original Ethereum chain after the contentious 2016 hard fork that followed the DAO hack. While most of the community moved to a new chain that reversed the hack, a minority kept the unaltered ledger, which is now Ethereum Classic. Its native token, ETC, retains a proof-of-work consensus and uses a fixed monetary policy, with a capped supply set by periodic emission reductions. The project positions itself around the principle that code is law, meaning the chain should not be rewritten to undo on-chain outcomes. ETC is mined with similar GPU hardware to other Ethash-style chains.
