About Internet Computer
Internet Computer is a public blockchain launched in 2021 by the DFINITY Foundation, founded by cryptographer Dominic Williams. It is designed to host websites, services and entire applications fully on-chain, including front-end interfaces, replacing centralized cloud and database stacks. The network is composed of subnets of nodes that run software canisters, the platform equivalent of smart contracts, with deterministic execution and reverse gas, where developers prepay computation so end users can interact for free. ICP is the native token used for governance through the Network Nervous System, staking and converting into cycles, the unit of computation that fuels canisters.
