About Stellar
Stellar is an open-source payment network launched in 2014 by Jed McCaleb, also a co-founder of Ripple, and Joyce Kim. It is designed to move money across borders quickly and cheaply, and to issue digital representations of fiat currencies and other assets. Transactions on Stellar settle in a few seconds with negligible fees through the Stellar Consensus Protocol, a federated agreement system that does not require mining. The native asset, lumens (XLM), is used to pay fees and as a bridge currency between issued tokens. The non-profit Stellar Development Foundation supports the network and partners with payment companies, fintechs and aid organizations worldwide.
