About XRP
XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger, an open-source blockchain launched in 2012 by Ripple co-founders David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto. The ledger uses a federated consensus protocol rather than mining, allowing transactions to settle in three to five seconds with very low fees. XRP is primarily designed for cross-border payments and liquidity, letting financial institutions move value between currencies without pre-funding accounts in every market. The total supply was pre-mined at 100 billion tokens, with portions held in escrow and released on a schedule. The XRP Ledger also supports tokenization, an on-chain decentralized exchange and NFTs.
