Japanese firms turn to Bitcoin, XRP as weak yen drives treasury shift
Japanese companies are increasingly using Bitcoin and XRP for corporate treasury diversification as the weak yen erodes the value of cash holdings, with SBI VC Trade reporting over 2 million registered accounts.

Japanese companies are turning to bitcoin and XRP as a weak yen pushes them to diversify their corporate treasuries, according to SBI VC Trade, the crypto arm of financial group SBI Holdings.
The exchange reported that use of its corporate service, SBIVC for Prime, has grown as the weak yen drives firms to spread reserves beyond cash. Added demand comes from companies that distribute bitcoin or XRP through shareholder-perk programs. SBI VC Trade also announced it has surpassed 2 million registered accounts, roughly double the 1 million it counted in 2025. The figure combines its VCTRADE and BITPOINT services and follows the April 2026 merger with another entity.
For cryptocurrency traders, this trend signals growing institutional adoption in Japan, a major economy where yen weakness has historically fueled interest in alternative assets. Bitcoin and XRP are increasingly seen as hedges against currency depreciation, and corporate treasury allocation could provide sustained demand. Traders can monitor these moves on NowPrice's live crypto dashboard to track price action in real time.
Looking ahead, the key question is whether other Japanese firms will follow suit, especially if the yen remains under pressure. The Bank of Japan's monetary policy stance and any shifts in global risk sentiment will be critical to watch. Additionally, the success of shareholder-perk programs may encourage more companies to adopt crypto distributions, further integrating digital assets into corporate finance.
