Kodiak Copper expands MPD drill program to 16,500 metres
Kodiak Copper upsizes its fully funded 2026 drill program at the MPD copper-gold porphyry project in British Columbia from 6,500 to 16,500 metres with a second rig to accelerate resource growth.

Kodiak Copper Corp. has expanded its fully funded 2026 drill program at the MPD copper-gold porphyry project in southern British Columbia from 6,500 metres to 16,500 metres with the addition of a second drill rig. The company, which holds a 100% interest in the MPD project, said work is progressing well and the program upsize is designed to accelerate the initial Mineral Resource estimate (MRE). All seven deposits in the MRE remain open to expansion, most in multiple directions, and drilling is being considered for all deposits this year.
For gold and precious metals traders, the expansion signals growing confidence in the project's potential to deliver significant copper and gold resources. Copper-gold porphyry deposits are a key source of both metals, and successful drilling can positively impact the outlook for gold supply, particularly from new projects. This comes amid a broader backdrop where central banks have been net buyers of gold since 2022, diversifying reserves away from the US dollar, which has supported gold prices despite headwinds from higher real US 10-year yields. The inverse correlation between gold and the DXY dollar index remains a key driver, with a weaker dollar typically boosting gold. Additionally, gold ETF flows, such as those in GLD and IAU, have shown renewed interest, while jewelry demand in key markets like India and China remains price-sensitive. Looking ahead, the market will watch for assay results from the expanded program and any updates to the MRE. The company's ability to continue funding exploration without dilution will also be a focus, given the fully funded status of the 2026 program. For gold traders, the COMEX-LBMA spread and real yield dynamics will be critical to monitor, as they influence short-term price volatility and the opportunity cost of holding gold.
