Meridian Discovers Second Gold-Silver and Zinc-Lead VMS Layer at Santa Helena
Meridian Mining has discovered a second layer of gold-silver and zinc-lead VMS mineralisation at its Santa Helena project, with hole CD-869 returning 7.2m at 1.4 g/t gold and other metals, indicating significant expansion potential.

Meridian Mining has announced the discovery of a second layer of gold-silver and zinc-lead volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralisation at its Santa Helena project in Brazil. The new intercept, hole CD-869, returned 7.2 metres at 1.4 grams per tonne gold, 0.1% copper, 24.3 g/t silver, 2.3% zinc and 0.9% lead, marking the first appearance of visible gold in the Santa Helena area.
The discovery lies below and east of the Santa Helena Central resource and is interpreted as the down-dip extension of the Santa Helena North IP anomaly. The mineralisation remains open in multiple directions, suggesting further upside potential. Meridian is continuing its exploration drill programmes to test for additional stacked horizons within the VMS system, targeting both open-pit and underground extensions to CD-869.
For gold and precious metals traders, the discovery highlights the ongoing exploration success in the Santa Helena region, which could add to future supply. While the find is not yet a producing mine, it underscores the potential for new VMS deposits to contribute to global gold and silver output. Traders tracking exploration-stage companies may view this as a positive catalyst for Meridian's stock, though near-term price action will depend on further drilling results and feasibility studies. Looking ahead, investors will watch for additional drill results from the Santa Helena programme, particularly any high-grade intercepts that could enhance the project's economics. The company's ability to define a resource from this new zone will be key. Broader market factors, such as gold price trends and investor appetite for junior miners, will also influence Meridian's valuation. The next set of assays is expected in the coming months.
